Western Railway Introduces 20 EMU services in Churchgate and Dahanu Road Section and extends 4 MEMU services


First EMU service in Dahanu Road-Churchgate will be flagged off by Shri Pawan Kumar Bansal, Hon'ble Minister of Railways in a function at Dahanu Road Railway station on 16th April, 2013. Shri Prithviraj Chavan, Hon'ble Chief Minister, Govt. of Maharashtra will be the Chief Guest. Other dignitaries will also be present on this occasion.
The EMU train which will be flagged off by Hon'ble Minister for Railways at 10.10 hrs from Dahanu Roadwill run stopping at all stations between Dahanu Road and Virar and then as a fast train between Virar and Churchgate. It will reach Churchgate at 12.58 hrs. Besides this, on 16/4/2013, one Virar-Dahanu Rd EMU train will be run ex Virar at 12.15 hrs reaching Dahanu Road at 13.45 hrs while another Dadar-Dahanu Rd EMU train will be run from Dadar at 18.00 hrs and it will reach Dahanu Road at 20.25 hrs. x Dahanu Road at 15.25 hrs reaching Dadar at 17.50 hrs. Another Dahanu Rd-Virar EMU train will start from Dahanu Road at 20.45 hrs and will reach Virar at 22.00 hrs. The regular run of newly introduced EMU services will commence from 17/04/2013.
With only a couple of trains introduced in 1867 in Churchgate–Virar section, the suburban system has become the lifeline of the city, carrying more than 36 million commuters today. The history of EMU trains in Western Railway's suburban section in Mumbai dates back to 1928 when EMU trains were first introduced. To cater to the increasing volume of commuters, Western Railway was first to introduce 9-car EMU trains in 1962. Similarly, Western Railway was pioneer in introducing 12-car trains on its suburban section in 1986. Later, Western Railway earned the distinction of being 1st railway to introduce country's largest 15-car trains on its suburban section.

15 new EMU trains have been introduced in Churchgate-Dahanu Road Section.2 shuttle trains running between Dahanu Road and Borivali have been replaced by EMU and extended upto Churchgate.2 EMU services running between Dadar and Virar have been extended till Dahanu Road and 1 EMU services running between Churchgate and Virar has also been extended to Dahanu Road.

Apart from above, 4 MEMU services which were running between Dahanu Road and Virar have been extended upto Dadar.


Following new 20 EMU services has been introduced between Churchgate & Dahanu Road
